TikTok Now Requires Pre-Approval for Supplement Ads. Here's What to Have Ready
TikTok added dietary supplements to its pre-approval category in 2026. Here's what supplement brands running TikTok ads need before they submit.
The rule changed quietly
If you run TikTok ads for a supplement brand, you may have noticed a new step in Ads Manager this year: campaigns for dietary supplements no longer go live automatically. They sit in a pre-approval queue alongside financial products and political ads, and TikTok's policy team reviews the brief, the creative, and the compliance documentation before anything spends a dollar.
For teams used to Meta's mix of automated and manual review, this is a different rhythm. Meta usually tells you within hours if an ad is rejected. TikTok's pre-approval reviews for supplements can take days, and there's no creative fix for a slow queue, only preparation.
What TikTok is asking for
The documentation burden is the real change here. Where Meta wants your ad copy and landing page to hold up, TikTok wants proof behind the product itself before it will even look at your creative. That generally means your cGMP certification for the manufacturing facility, Supplement Facts label images that match what's on the actual product, manufacturing facility registration, and if you're a reseller rather than the manufacturer, a purchase invoice tying your listing back to them.
None of this is unreasonable for a legitimate supplement brand, most established brands already have this paperwork for retail or Amazon. The problem is timing. Brands that treat it as a launch-week task end up with approved creative and no live campaign, right when they needed it running.
The claims rules haven't gotten looser
Alongside the documentation requirement, TikTok has kept tightening what the ad itself is allowed to say. No disease treatment or cure claims. No guaranteed outcomes. Before-and-after imagery is out, the same way it's been restricted on Meta, and weight-management content is under particularly close watch, including indirect references that used to slide through.
If your team has already built a Meta pre-approval habit, writing claims that are true, specific, and boring on purpose, most of that discipline carries over to TikTok. The gap is that TikTok is now checking the business behind the claim, not just the words on screen.
What this means for your production timeline
We build TikTok's review window into the plan the same way we've always built Meta's: assume it will take longer than the platform's best case, and get the compliance packet moving before the creative is even final. A few things that help.
Start the documentation request with your manufacturer or supplement facts source the same week you brief a new campaign, not after creative is approved internally. Keep a standing folder of your cGMP cert, label art, and facility registration so it's never a scramble per campaign. And build TikTok's pre-approval timeline into your launch calendar the same way you'd build in a shipping delay, it's now a fixed cost of doing business on the platform, not an edge case.
This is exactly where compliance and production timelines run into each other. A great hook doesn't help if the ad is still sitting in review the week you needed it live, which is why we treat pre-approval requirements as part of the creative brief, not a separate legal step tacked on at the end.
Where this is heading
TikTok added supplements to pre-approval without much fanfare, and there's a reasonable chance other platforms follow, Meta already reviews health and wellness ads more aggressively than almost any other category. Brands that build their documentation and claims discipline now, on TikTok specifically, will be in a much better position if Google or YouTube add something similar.
For now, the move is simple: treat your TikTok compliance packet as seriously as your creative brief, and start both at the same time.
